8 x8 Cabin Tiny Small Cheap in woods
Our Tiny Cabin
This is a cabin we made from MOSTLY used building materials leftover from building our Firstday Cottage. Some materials were left over from remodeling our current house over the past few years. Total amount for Materials invested so far is 40 bucks to date (Dec 05 2006)
  • 20 bucks for 4 sheets of OSB
  • 20 bucks for 9 pounds of drywall screws

Deb and I wanted to make something for us. After working over a year on the Firstday Cottage that we are going to sell, we decided to do something more "manageable" both time wise and money ( of which we have none!!!!!). I'm somewhat surprised how much material even a small cabin like this eats. We had what I though was plenty of materials. 2 x 4s in general I had to scrounge extra hard to find also plywood we just didn't have enough. Some materials are ugly as ass and crooked but perfect for a project like this!!

Here are some pictures to what we have done so far. more

Solar Oven

I decided on my day off that I would like to build a solar cooker. The solar cookers seem like great projects to do , as they are pretty easy and quick to build. They really don't cost much money you can make them from card board and tin foil!!

So I started scrounging through the chicken coup of leftovers from the previous owner ( and some stuff we might have accidentally added ) I found some wood from an old desk I had in my room and went to town. Total Cost was 10 Bucks for an adhesive backed foil. All in all very pleasantly surprised on how well it came out.   more

affordable 45 Watt PV Panel
affordable 45 Watt PV Panel

Paulson Sr. alerted me to some panels and a great price. The kit cost 200 dollars & I even got a 3 set of Tin Snips and 5 bucks off by using a coupon I found on this site!! http://www.billt.com/harborfreight.htm

I looked around afterward and really couldn't find anything that touches this price.

The Kit consist of 3 15watt PV Panels, a frame, 2 12volt CF Bulbs and a battery controller. All in all I say a good deal for 200 beans. Deb and I weren't looking for a whole house solution , we just wanted to get our feet wet with PV Panels. I've heard from different sources about the quality concern of the controller in the kit. I've used it b/c I'm not that concerned for our application . JUST PLAYING more

Yellow Dune Buggy Manx fiberglass
Yellow Dune Buggy

We found this dune buggy a long whole back. It was blue (faded) metallic flake, with a smashed in front hood and ...well I could go on. Basically we paid 800 bucks for it, in ran but not for long the would just quit. During 2002-2003 somewhere my ol' man and I started restoring it. Here are some pictures of the finished product. This dune buggy is so awesome, I can't begin to express how much I love this car. This car has taken me on more back roads .... seasonal roads are especially fun!! I've had it on 2 wheels on a couple of occasions . It also likes mud , more then the owner likes cleaning the mud I might add
